Lavender Oatmeal Facial Scrub

Over the last 6 months or so I have been experiencing some changes to how products I have used for years work on my face like (soap, facial scrub, and make-up). I’m sure it is due to being 38 years old and my body and skin’s chemical make up or something is changing. I have always used a particular store bought facial scrub brand for many years that all of a sudden makes my skin burn like fire and turn bright red! At first I tried different products, but they still caused irritation. Then I decided to go with no product on my face at all but water and to only wear make up on my eyes. Finally, I wasn’t having the fiery burning any more. After some time I thought I would start trying more natural products on my face. I decided to try making up a batch of homemade lavender oatmeal facial scrub.

I use whole grain oats rather than quick oats. I haven’t bought quick oats in years.

In a small bowl or baby food jar add a little bit of oatmeal.

Then add 5-7 drops of lavender essential oils to the oatmeal in the bowl. As you can see there is no noticeable visual change to the oatmeal when adding the lavender essential oil, but the aroma is amazing. Oh I wish you could smell it!

To use just scoop out a small amount into your hand and add water. Rub the moistened oatmeal all over your face. The oatmeal will breakdown as you rub it around. It is so gentle. Afterwards my face felt so soft. A little bit goes a long way so put a lid on the remaining mixture and stash it under your bathroom sink or somewhere so that you’ll have it for next time.

Not only does the lavender essential oil smell divine, but it actually benefits the skin. Lavender has cleansing, purifying, therapeutic, and anti-toxic properties. Lavender is known as the ‘calming oil’ and is often used to assist in balancing the body. Lavender is most commonly used to soothe the occasional skin irritation, help improve quality of sleep, aid in calming nerves.
