Crock Pot Baked Potatoes

A couple of weeks ago I came across a blog post for crock pot baked potatoes. I would give credit, but now I can no longer find it. I thought I had pinned it. I love being able to have supper cooking in the crock pot while I’m at work or busy. When I saw this idea I was excited. Baked potatoes in the microwave do not taste the same and potatoes baked in the oven take a long time.

It is super easy!

  1. Poke a few holes in the potatoes with a fork.
  2. Wrap in tin foil.
  3. Place in crock pot and cover.
  4. Cook on low for about 6 hours.
  5. Load potato with your choice of fixins (butter, sour cream, cheese, bacon, etc)

That’s it!

When I originally found this idea the blogger said she cooked them while at work, but did not specify just how many hours that was. The very next day I put the potatoes in the crock pot and turned it on low right before I left for work. By the time I got home the potatoes were in the crock pot for almost 10 hours. The side of the potatoes laying up against the heat of the crock pot were a little tough and over done. Still we ate them, but they were not great. The skins did not get eaten due to how over cooked they were. We just threw them in the compost bucket.

About a week after my first attempt I wanted to try them again, but knew they needed to cook less. However, my crock pot doesn’t have a timer on it. It has off, low, high, and a warm setting. So, I used a cheap outlet timer that I already had (like you might use for Christmas lights) and set the time to turn on at noon and turn off at 6:30. I plugged the crock pot into the timer and plugged it into the wall. I turned the crock pot on low and went to work.

When I got home at 6:00 the potatoes were perfect! I was so pleased. Depending on your model of crock pot, you may need to play with the time a little bit until you get it just right. It only took me 2 tries.

You should definitely give this a try! You’ll love it.
