Snowpocalypse

It has been snowing for about 24  hours now with only a few brief breaks. It started yesterday around noon as snow. It took me 2 hours and 40 mins to get home yesterday from work. The highway was impassible and a complete parking lot. As soon as I could I took some side roads, some of which were blocked from wrecks and such. Why do people in 2 wheel rear drive cars think they can drive in this stuff? Every vehicle that I saw in a ditch or stranded was one of these or a van.

I believe we got about 7 or 8 inches before it switched over to ice and a wintry mix. It iced for several hours through the night and early morning.

Jon had to go into work this morning just a couple of hours late. I don’t see the restaurant getting much business today. They should have just stayed closed. Sigh. At least he made it to work safely. Luckily, I can work from how by telecommuting.

After several hours of the ice, the snow had packed down to about 6 inches. The layer of ice on top is so thick that our dog, Oreo, is walking on top. She doesn’t even leave a paw print!

There will be no snow pictures of chickens! Forget it. They have had it and are not coming out. I feel about the same way. I’m tired of driving and schlepping through this mess to work and to feed and water the animals. I don’t like digging through snow just to find the water and food bowls and digging just to get the run door open.

Sarah slept until almost noon on her snow day. She doesn’t seem too interested in playing out in it. I honestly am not either. I don’t know if I am getting old and no fun any more, but I just want to stay inside where it is warm when I don’t have to be out in it.

And now it has switched over to a heavy wet snow. The trees already had a layer of ice on them and with the heavy wet snow, I hope we don’t have any major damage.

And still it looks like we have several more hours of snow. Sigh. On the bright side, with all this cold winter that we have had this year hopefully, the bugs this summer will be less. The last few summers have been horrible with bugs because our winters have been mild and not killed off a lot of the larvae.

We have soup in the crock pot. The tub is filled with water in case we have a power outage so we can flush the toilets. There’s fuel in the building if we need to use the generator and propane tanks in case we need to use our propane heater.

For now, we’ll just stay hunkered down inside staying warm (until I need to go check on the animals again in a bit) and hope that Jon makes it home safe this evening.
